Role description:
Arcadis is currently seeking an Environmental Planner to support environmental planning efforts, for utility infrastructure in the California (Concord, CA, Roseville, CA, Irvine, CA, San Luis Obispo, CA, or Los Angeles, CA). This full-time position will require strict adherence to health and safety procedures, strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a passion for high quality workmanship.
Role accountabilities:
Under supervision of senior-level staff, support and coordinate a regionally-focused multi-disciplinary team of scientists (i.e., biologists, cultural resources specialists, etc.), to develop project implementation and permitting strategies to achieve specifically defined project goals and objectives in conjunction with land rights specialists, and customer relations and government relations professionals.
Effectively and efficiently managing desktop environmental assessments using GIS and other available methods to address potential permitting requirements
Conducting field reviews and site visits with other technical specialists, engineers, and construction personnel
Maintaining electronic file systems and record keeping
Periodic travel (up to 40 percent of the time)
A firm understanding of state and federal permit threshold requirements
Ability to understand elementary land rights (easements, process to acquire temporary rights, etc.) information and issues
Exhibit solid, practical skills in Microsoft Office applications [spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), scheduling (Project)]
Valid driver’s license
Willingness to travel overnight in California from 2 to 4 times per month
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field
2 years of experience in the environmental field
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of California and federal permit requirements
Three (3) years of experience in the environmental field AND/OR advanced degree in environmental science or similar
Previous experience in the planning, permitting, and/or supporting the construction, reconstruction or maintenance of electric or gas transmission facilities, or other similar type of infrastructures (i.e., water, sewer, oil and gas, etc.)
Experience with evaluating project compliance with state and federal laws and environmental and regulatory processes - federal, state and local regulators such as PUC, PSC, FERC, BLM, USFS, USFWS, USACE, as well as experience with CEQA and NEPA
Previous experience with linear utility infrastructure programs
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports/permit applications
