Pierre Materassi is a graduate student at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) pursuing his Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) degree with an emphasis in land use and development. In addition, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Pierre served as Boatswain's Mate in the U.S. Coast Guard, during which time he accumulated over 11 years working with, instructing, and supervising teams of up to 12 people in accomplishing mission goals and projects.
He has participated in many activities to safeguard the environment, such as the routine booming of ships and submarines for fueling evolutions, maritime firefighting and salvage, oil spill response and cleanup, prosecution for violations of Federal, State, and Local laws concerning illegal marine dumping, as well as Territorial and High Seas fisheries enforcement for the prevention of overfishing and harvesting of illegal species. Pierre’s passion for environmental protection and green living, have helped cultivate his professional goal; to work on large-scale, renewable energy and sustainable development projects.
Pierre enjoys tennis, hiking, bicycling, and kayaking.
